Enable anyone to have access to the cutting-edge technology
The term "cloud computing" has been in use for some time now, and the use of this technology has made it extremely convenient for information sharing and collaborative work by reducing the load on terminal (edge) devices and allowing access from any terminal.
However, this means that large amounts of data (video, audio, etc., in addition to text) are exchanged between individual edge devices and the cloud computer via communication lines, and therefore the communication costs for the number of terminal devices are high, as is the load on the cloud computer. Furthermore, if data from individual edge devices is to be used to perform specific tasks on the cloud computer (for example, functions to determine the number of people captured on an online camera, estimated ages of the people, genders, etc., from images of people), the cloud computer must be equipped with at least the minimum necessary applications for each edge device, and the updating and operation management of that software must also be handled by the cloud computer. This would place an extremely heavy burden on the cloud computer side. Furthermore, using cloud computing to incorporate AI/IoT technologies, which are essential in today's world, will further increase the aforementioned issues.
”Actcast”, launched by Idein in January 2020, is an AI platform that solves all of the above issues, and by having individual edges (terminals) perform the work described above that used to be performed on the cloud computer side, it is expected to reduce communication costs and significantly reduce the load on the cloud computer.
As of February 2022, “Actcast” is being used by 140 companies, including major telecommunications carriers and other large enterprises. The emergence of an innovative platform that not only accelerates DX by incorporating AI functions at the edge, but also leads to energy and resource savings, is likely to be a major force in driving Japan's AI/IoT operational performance and capabilities. We wish the company continued growth.
